How to compost and why you should!

Let's get started, composting is an amazing thing you can do for the planet and your garden.

Anyone can do this! It is very simple to start and many ways to you can do this. I will be showing you how to make a compost in the ground.

Your very first thing will be to dig a hole at least 4-5 FT wide and 1-2 FT down. Make sure the hole will get lots of direct sun. Save the dirt your taking away you will need this later. After you dig your hole you can start adding your compostables. Place that set a side dirt loosely on top just enough to cover the top!

Here is list of general items that are great for compost.

  • Fruit

  • Vegetables

  • Hair clippings

  • Nail clippings

  • Worms

  • Egg shells

  • Potato Skin

  • Corn Husks

  • Cooked fruit

  • Cooked vegetables

  • Ashes from grill

  • Cooked Beans

Absolutely do not put meat cooked or raw, no plastic, stay away from paper products.

Now why would you want or need a compost at your home? Well, there are many benefits to having your own compost!

Your garden is a big reason, you can compost all year long. When it is time to garden you will have fresh soil that is packed with nutrients for your flowers or vegetables! It's like your own secret ingredient.

Composting is also beneficial to your trash can. Keeping up with egg shells and potato skins can be messy and stinky waiting for the trash to get taking out! Just put everything into a thank you bag and take it to your compost!

Not only will you feel great knowing those nutrients will not be wasted in the trash can but the birds will love you for creating a compost! Birds love old seeds, worms, and fruit. This is a one stop shop for them to grab a bite to eat!

This a fun project you can even do with the kids, showing them how to reuse and recycle food waste! Or if your trying to figure out how to contribute to Earth 🌎 Day this is the way to show jusy how much you love our planet!
