If you are interested in getting a Betta fish while keeping it simple this is the post for you!
Betta's are very cool fish to have as pets. Most of us have heard you can not put Betta fish with other fish well, im here to tell you thats not completely true. There are plenty of fish you can pair with Bettas along with shrimp and snails.
You can always ask your local aquatic store!
For my set up I have a 3 gallon fish bowl($5), 3 moss balls($3) and some sea shells (FREE) I picked up along the beach one vacation. Also a light clamp for his bowl. The moss balls help keep the water clean and store the flakes when they fall so Barry can eat them later.
You will want to make sure to boil any shells you use before adding them to the tank. The water I use is tap water that has set out at room temperature for at least 24-48 hours. This is important because the chlorine needs to evaporate from the water.
I feed Barry my Betta 2x a day with fish flakes and blood worms($10). He loves feeding time! Now I do have cats 6 total and he is in a safe spot on my book self. I have not had any crazy experience with my cats trying to get him. They do love to stare as he swims by! I make sure to clean his water when it gets dirty, having prepared the water to use a day in advance. I will say this is the easiest pet to take care of.
P.S After 2 weeks I bought a snail Gary, to add to the tank. Gary and Barry live together in peace and Gary also helps keep the tank clean.
